The company takes its name from Westleigh, a rural village nestled in the plains of North Devon, England, situated along the banks of the River Torridge and surrounded by rolling hills and fertile green fields. The village’s landscape—defined by agricultural continuity, settlement permanence, and human stewardship—forms the philosophical foundation of the company.
Westleigh is of Anglo-Saxon origin and is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, one of the most significant documents in English land history. The name derives from west and lēah, meaning “a clearing of land at the western edge of a forest”—a term used by the Anglo-Saxons to describe land that had been deliberately cleared, ordered, and brought into productive use.
